MONA

Floating Island

With the Heavy Metal programme of the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA) in Hobart, Tasmania. We designed a floating island which takes the line ‘healing the land is healing ourselves’. The island itself removes zinc solids from the water column through a mechanical process whilst a planted ring absorbs high nutrient loads. The sauna gives space for the cleansing of one’s self.

Ground truthing on the floating island is intended to calibrate with satellite overpasses, proving the relationship between near real-time Earth observations and landscape remediation.
